Just wondering what others would do in this situation?

As a preface though, I am still somewhat

Some possibilities that popped into my head...did you recently install any new programs around the time the problem started? If so, then maybe try deleting those programs and see if that helps. Since the problems started around the time the DSL was added there might be a connection. Another possibility is that one of your drives such as the CD-ROM drive might be bad. One of the computers we have for the kids to use started acting up and not booting properly. My husband was thinking it was hard drive or motherboard issues but then decided to try unplugging the DVD drive and the computer hasn't had any problems since then.

Basically the repair place had to use the recover disks and reload everything. the only thing they saved that i remembered to ask for was my pictures, and they did save My documents file. So when they reloaded all from the 9 or 10 discs anything on there was wiped out.

Good luck! I had that happen in September and it was my hard drive. No big deal to replace he hard drive, but we lost a bunch of files that hadn't been backed up. The ones I'm most upset to lose are the pictures of my kids. Just about everything else can either be recreated or doesn't matter that much. Luckily, I was able to recover a lot because we give pictures to my parents and ILs fairly often. We took it to a computer place and $120 later they weren't able to recover anything.

If I had been smart I would have been planning ahead and either backed stuff up or at least when I took it in and knew they might have to wipe everything out, I should have stopped to think of what files I wanted to save!
