Is it really all that bad?

I just read someone's post and it sounded so hopeless with regard to the economy.
Folks - 90% of people ARE STILL employed!

Another friend of mine let me know of a church in my area that gets the leftovers from some of the local supermarkets and sells them to people from their church on Saturday mornings for deep discounts. I'm thinking of going there this week.
Sounds like a good deal.
What are you doing on the employment side of things?
Dh is doing ok. He works for a good company with
I also found out there's a grocery service at my new church. I was surprised to hear that you don't have to fill out any paperwork saying youre at the poverty level or anything, but just showing up gets you the groceries. Maybe there's a church in your area that does the same thing???
To my knowlege there isn't.

Don't know the path your are on today, or what caused it, but you seem a bit caustic in your responses.
I live in Michigan where the economy sucks and has sucked for quite awhile. My husband is a former auto industry worker. We have lived the high life (when the auto industry was making money hand over fist) and we've hit rock bottom (when dh was laid off and never called back). We know how it feels to live with unemployment, losing your home, your car and everything else. We have been there.
I don't take offense to the OP. I think she is trying to see the good side of bad times and honestly, it is kind of nice. When all you hear is doom and gloom, you feel like there isn't anything positive out there. There ARE positive things out there - they are just fewer and farther between.
I know how it feels to lose everything you've worked for. I know how embarrassing and humbling it is. Trust me. I KNOW. I also know that sitting on the couch and wallowing in self pity isn't going to change anything. It will only deepen the depression. You have to get out there and do what you can to keep your mind somewhat positive.
My husband is working again, but part-time. He isn't making auto industry wages and we've definitely learned how to live on far less in life. As hard and humbling as his job loss was, I truly feel it made us better people. We were self centered and focused far too much on money and material things. We realize the important things in life -- and those aren't an expensive home or flashy car.
I have to tell you that while we aren't rolling in money, we do try and help out the local economy by buying in this area, going out to eat once in awhile and trying to spend some of the money we do have on things that will help our own area.
So, in answer.. is it really all that bad? I suppose maybe it is, but I also think some of it is how you choose to look at it. I've gone through a whole heck of a lot and I refuse to look at it in the doom and gloom mindframe.
Hi All, as I said before I live in Michigan....and we have been hit hard.
I don't think it's THAT bad, but it still is bad.
