Good for you! And yes, it is possible to get to the end. Sometimes it just takes years. And one must stay focused for that long which is not easy. I try to stay focused by planning what I will do with the money each month when the debt is paid off. Mostly it involves saving for something I want like a house! I really want a new house, and that reality gets closer with each debt payment I make.
I know I forecast my budget out for about 18 months at a time. Issue is that curve balls, like large tax bills throw it into dissaray, and I have to recalculate. This month it is a $3k curve ball for those taxes. But at least I can forecast ahead to know where and how I can make it up.
It does look like all my small CCs will be gone this year (4 gone already), if I stay on track, keep my job and my second job stays in tact all year. That would leave one big cc and a business card that is not on my credit report, for 2010. My DD starts college in 2010 and we will not be eligible for financial aid, so money used for debts will route to whatever college she attends for at least 4 years.
My dream of a home is probably never going to come to fruition as this house is about $50k upside down, and so I am left with the memories of the nice homes I used to own. Right now I don't now how we can make this home ready enough for a graduation party in 15 months as DH does not seem motivated to do the work needed and I can't afford to hire help.
I guess I am looking at 60 hours a week for at least 4 years in the future. Maybe my end goal is just to get to a place with less hours someday.
