Sometimes it is time to bury the old car and get a different one.
They can eat you up alive in repairs once

I fear I am at least 3/4 eaten already.
Used the same comment to a former coworker....feel like I fell off the bus that then went and ran over me!!
I don't know the whole van story, but I will tell you if your oil looks "milky" or like liquid-y toothpaste, you'll want to stop driving the van. Milky oil indicates antifreeze is getting drawn into the motor (sometimes through a malfunctioning intake gasket) and that is bad news. Antifreeze breaks down the lubricating properties of the oil and you'll end up with with a seized engine.
If I were you, I would march it right back to the guy who screwed it up the first time (with all receipts) and inform him that you will be taking him to small claims court to recoup your repair costs as he has caused more issues. I don't know that I would let him "fix" it since he doesn't know what he's doing. One thing I'd do before doing this? Take it to someone who is reputable (or two places!) and have them give you an estimate of repairs.
It sounds to me like he didn't do the head gasket correctly OR he damaged something else in the process (perhaps he torqued the head gasket down incorrectly thus resulting in a crack in your head -- well, the car's head... LOL).
The van is for all practical purposes dead.
There has to be something you can do! I would be so flipping angry if I were you....I'm not
