I am divorced now as of this past summer. My ex and I have been apart for two years. We never did go to court over the kids and for that I am thankful. I too own my own business. I have often thought about getting a "real" job and if that would be easier. I truly don't know if it would. I still might do that. For now I am making the payments and taking it one day at a time. You may need to sit yourself down and ask yourself if you would do better with a regular pay check right now. Something to think about or at least look into.
You sound really stressed out and for that I am truly sorry. I feel your pain. Last May I found out I had 30,000 in debt and most of it was to help my business and to pay for personal and business taxes. After my kids went to bed I sat in my bath tub with bubbles so the tears could just fall into the water then went bed many nights.
This will get better Sharon. But it is YOU that must make it better. Sit down and come up with a plan. What do you pay first? What are the due dates. It feels so much better to get it all down on paper. There is strength in a plan. There is strength in you.
You need to take care of yourself first, then deal with these issues.
I wish you luck. Post often, and the ladies on the board and myself will try to help. Can you put your student loans on hold? I don't know much about that but other ladies on the board will.
You have come to the right place. This is a really great board-the ladies are very knowledgeable and non-judgmental. It somehow feels a bit easier when you have support from others in the same situation.
I just had a long great post for you and I lost it!! Not happy! Ok, I will try again.
I think the main gist of it was to have an emergency fund. Back in October I thought I was doing great and I thought I didn't need one. Then in November my business credit line looked like it might have needed help. I would have had to take money from my personal credit line(listed on my ticker) to help my business. I was mortified. I would be going deeper in debt. So I had give myself a talking to. Luckily I got a refund on the corporate taxes to help the business. But I didn't want to be in that situation again. So I paid the minimum on my personal credit line for a few months, and started to build an efund. Boy do I sleep better with that little baby built up. And now I am paying down the credit line again aggressively. Will I ever have to use it? I don't know, maybe. But if I do, I won't have to back slide on my debt repayment. It will just go down.
Remember this debt reduction is a journey and it is going to take time. It sounds like you are growing as a person and growing your business. That should reap monetary and mental rewards.
So catch up, built up the efund and then worry about the debt repayment. You sound very determined and that mind set is way more important than anything.
I have really bad days too. And this board is great for venting, rejoicing in the small and big things. So post often and take it one step at a time.

{{{HUGS}}} Sharon.
I am sorry expenses seem to be raining down on you right now.
I already pay less CS than I should.
