I wish I could re-do Easter Spending

Wishing I could take back some Easter spending! I was doing really well. We had only spent a very minimal amount on candy, reused old baskets and purchased the cheapest bike we could find for DS #2 (DS#1 was getting a new bike from Grandparents because his was stolen last year...so we had to get DS#2 a bike as well in order to be fair). Here comes Easter morning and we come to find out that Grandma didn't have a basket for DS#3 who is 1. I had to get him a basket though! So we went to Wal-mart and then I was in the store and feeling badly that we had gotten all the other kids something big and not our other child so I bought him a small toy and a cheap basket and some age appropriate candy. Altogether, it came to $40 dollars. I put the basket together and hid some eggs for him and you wanna know what happened. NOTHING! He didn't care one bit about the basket, or the eggs, or the cookies. I got him a bubble machine and he actually did LOVE that so I know we'll get some use out of that this summer, but what a bummer! I hate it when you think you are smart enough to realize that a 1 year old is not going to care about Easter but then you forget and buy him stuff anyway. BLAH! $40 dollars wasted!

Hi Abbie:
I totally understand, I wish I could re-do my Easter weekend spending.

That sort of reminds me of when we had a rummage sales years ago.
Same thing happened to me this weekend Kate.
I was spending like it was going out of style. $30 for sushi . . . no problem.

Lesson learned. Don't beat yourself up about it.
I got my DD when she was a baby a basket because I didn't want my DS to think the Easter Bunny didn't come for her. But, I ended up throwing stuff we already owned into the basket for her. My DS had no idea.
Next year you will make a smarter choice. You already have baskets so those can be reused. It's funny b/c somebody asked me this year if I bought new baskets for my kids and I told them when I was a kid we NEVER got a NEW basket. We used the same ones year after year after year.
Now that you have baskets- you have saved money there. Next year you will plan ahead and make a better spending choice. :)
You are a good mom and made your kids happy. Nothing wrong w/that!
when I was a kid we NEVER got a NEW basket. We used the same ones year after year after year.
We had ceramic eggs my mother made for us when we were younger.

Marie, it all sounds really beautiful.
Now that I think of it, when I was little, I didn't get a new basket each year either.
