OT - Thyroid Update

Just went to the doctors and started my medication. I'm really hoping it makes me feel better soon. I also found out that my triglycerides are high. If I don't get them down in 8 weeks, she's putting me on cholesterol medication and I'm 30 years old! She also said that my triglyceride level could be caused by my thyroid and the medication may help, but I'm not going to count on that. I need to eat better and exercise and this is my bodies way of saying "Wake Up!" What's strange though is that my cholesterol and HDL/LDL are perfect, just my triglycerides are out of whack. Of course I read that this is caused by eating too many calories that your body can't use and this describes me to a T! I always eat too much and lately I have just been not caring! I have to cut down on Sugars, Bad fats, Alcohol (I rarely drink but I guess alcohol is a real triglyceride NO NO) and fatty meat. Time for a new way of life. I'm actually glad that this was discovered because my overwhelming exhaustion was keeping me from doing all the healthy things I need to do like exercise and cook at home. I was so tired that a trip to the pizza store was much more appealing than standing in front of a stove and then cleaning up afterwards!

Glad you got some answers and some meds. I had to stop the medication because I was having dizzy spells and I was on the lowest dose possible, so they just decided to stop the meds. It stinks because I still feel crappy and tired all the time!
As far as the triglycerides go, I would tell your doctor to give it 3 months and then recheck you. If they haven't gone down by that time then do the meds. If you are going to start exercising and eating better, 8 weeks just isn't enough time. Good luck with everything! Let us know how you make out.

Thanks! I've been doing a lot of research on thyroids and I found some books with diets that can help your thyroid function normally. Maybe since you can't be on the meds, then some kind of lifestyle program built for your thyroid would help you feel better. I'm really anxious to stop feeling so tired all the time. I was starting to think I was anemic again!
