Last Friday my DH invited me to meet him for lunch (we work on opposite sides of the same city.)

Thanks for the heads up Marie, we are pretty sure this fall we will be getting a larger vehicle and although normally I tend to get one that is at least a year or two old, i was really wanting to look at the Traverse specifically.

Even the cheapest one was over $30k, sorry, just can't do that with a clear conscious right now, even if we want to help family at GM.

By the way, they are all worried this week as 1,600 white collar job cuts are being announced, yet they are going to build another plant in China.

I have never had a car payment, except my first year out of college, so not something I am likely to get into.

Just don't know, it is hard around the area this week as no one knows what is happening with GM or Chrsysler and it seems all out of the control of the people in the company now.

Good for you, Marie. That makes so much more sense.

Both of our cars are rusting out and things are going on them here and there. We really aren't "looking" for anything, but probably should start.

I read recently that if you can't pay it off in 3 years, you can't afford it. That bit of advice is in the back of my mind when I think about car payments. It does make sense.

Great job Marie!

I am still saddled with my car payment for 36 months, but I must admit, I love the SUV. Once I get myself sorted out with the CC debt (and the added school debt) I am going to target that so I can get it paid off in less time!

Isn't it funny how couples can feed off of each other to convince each other that a bad idea is good and a good one is bad! I'm glad you were able to talk each other down!

Nice save Marie!

We have a car fund right now to upgrade a car too. They are both getting old. I really don't want a car payment! I want to save for a house. If we did have one though it would be for less than three years. We are going to reassess things in the fall and save until then.
