As most of you know, my DH has a chronic health condition that will last the rest of his life.

There are some around here that are also starting to do that. It is because of the insurance company making the doctors give the big discounts back

Mary Ann was right. Often doctors only receive $0.50 to 0.70 to every dollar they bill from insurance companies, and the paperwork involved is a nightmare. Since you are paying out of pocket, you may ask if she would give you a discount. Explain to her that she is getting the entire amount without having to wait 60 or 90 days. It is always worth a try.

Sorry to hear that Robin. I don't think there is any harm in at least asking for a discount. I'm sure she has heard it before. Good luck.

Can you send the receipts in to your insurance company and have them reimburse you?

I know that is what I do here for some of my specialists that don't take my extended medical. I just pay for it and then send in the receipts and the insurance company sends me back a portion (usually about 80%) of what I paid. Mind you I am in Canada so the medical system works a bit different. (even from province to province) lol

I too was going to suggest submitting a claim to your insurance company to see what you can get back.

You could see if your insurance co. will reimburse a portion of this.
