Cute story to lift your spirits:

My bf and sons (9 & 12)and I live on a rural property in Canada. I have been trying to teach the boys about earning money and savings for a couple of years now. We have also been trying to get them interested in being out doors and more active.

BF decided to try something new. Moles are a pest in the grass around here. They dig tunnels and make all the land bumpy and difficult to mow etc. Last night he took the boys out(I was at my girlfriends) and they dug two holes and put mole traps in, then set the traps. Early this morning I heard the front door slam shut. I wondered what was going on so I got up and looked out the front window. There was my 9 year old trudging across the yard with his rain jacket on and rubber boots. It was pouring down rain as he made his way behind the shop about 50 yards from the house. I smiled and waited for him to inspect the traps they had set last night. Sure enough he came running around the other side back to the house. I nudged my bf (still sleeping) and said "Got one!" He got up, put his clothes on and met the 9 year old at the door. I watched again as they went behind the shop to take the mole out of the trap. Upon arriving back, the boys were given 2 bucks each for this disgusting prize. Myself, and my older son, went out to look at the rodent. Wow those guys are ugly and mean looking!

Anyway they are excited to set more traps and collect a wage for small animal prey that really is a pain. The going rate will be 2 dollars per mole now and hopefully they will keep up with it. The BF was very happy, I was happy and so are the boys. I guess the only one that is not all that happy is the mole.

Oh, and btw, my 12 year old wanted to pay for the burgers we got for mother's day. I told him I would be happier if he took that money and put it away to start saving for a car!

We have moles in Michigan and last year they thought our front lawn was a race track.

I am backing out and there he sits on our little retaining wall, pitchfork in one hand, coffee cup in the other, waiting for the mole to move somewhere on that front lawn.
