When the going gets tough.....

When the going gets tough what do you do?
I know lots of people are getting their hours cut or being laid off. Some people have lots of debt they would like relief from.
I sell avon to cut household expenses, and work more at my store like a second job. I don't know if I could actually do anymore to pay off debt quicker. I am always open to ideas.
What do you do to cut costs/make extra money in times where you feel there is just too much going out and not enough coming in or some combo of the two? Any coping skills you would like to pass around?

To be perfectly honest, when the going gets really tough, first I have a major melt-down and then I sleep for about 12 hours.

Excellent topic!
When the going gets tough, I tend to get really down and hard on myself.

Good post,
My response is usually the ostrich, then the panic and cry and then the dealing with it. At the moment my CC's are going up (not happy about it, but I have had to put a lot of medical bills on them in the last week). I will get reimbursed eventually, but its so depressing to see them there going the wrong way.
I need to refocus my energies and replan my goals. I am looking at $3500 of CC debt and I want it gone asap. I am hoping to do so by the end of the summer. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

When things get tough financially, I always cut back on the food budget.

When the going gets tough, first I throw a fit, and then I go grocery shopping. I am much calmer when the cupboards are overflowing. Usually, I then look through all of my balance transfer offers and take the check with the best rate to the bank so that I have a buffer in my checking account. I would rather owe a few thousand more and not have to stress about how I am going to come up with the rent money than worry about all of my rates getting jacked up because of late payments. Oh, and we defer the student loans, too. Setbacks are usually temporary...so I try not to panic.
I figure out which bills we can pay less on if we have to (utilities usually don't do anything as long as you send them half and don't let them get more than a month behind.)
We cut back on everything, and focus on survival. In the past, when I worked pt, I would up my hours if dh was having issues at his job. Now we both work full time, so that wouldn't be an option.

Dh and I do make good stable incomes, but I am also teaching at nights as an adjunct professor and tutoring at least one day a week.
