I hope this will inspire someone

I've got a brag here - heck, I can't help it - but I hope the details behind it will inspire someone, I really do.

The brag is that as of today my snowflakes have topped $13,000 for 2009 (debt reduced by over 20k). But here's the part I hope might make a difference to someone out there:

On paper, we can't pay our bills.

I know it's easy to think "oh, can do flake because they make more money" but in our case, it's not because we do it easily. If we just took DH's paycheck and tried to work with it, we'd fall further behind each month. But he finds sidework and I do some work from home (online and decorating cakes) as time permits (I'm a homeschooling SAHM to five) and we've gone from "not enough" to a $13,000 snowball in less than half a year. And, for the record, our tax return contributed only $1,000 to that total.

If we can start in the hole each month and amass a 13k snowflake in just five months, anyone can find flakes!

You should be extremely proud. That takes a lot of hard work!

We are in a similar position. On paper...we are just squeaking by with no "extras" or room for life's mishaps. As a result of our bankruptcy, we don't have any credit card debt, only an auto loan. The problem is we don't have any retirement to speak of either. DH and I are both in our mid 30's and have some catching up to do. I have made it my summer project to do research and start the process. Now I just need to utilize your methods to fund it!

Great job...samey

I'm so inspired, but need a little guidance at the same time.

Thank you! And kudos to you for putting your focus on retirement! I'm looking forward to the day we can do the same. Luckily we don't have any credit card debt either, and as soon as we get these misc. debts paid off we'll be following in your footsteps!

Hmmm...I hadn't thought of that. DH would have a fit if I posted details, but maybe I can keep some of them out. I'll give it some consideration! My progress is going to slow a bit after the end of this month because that's when I really start concentrating on Christmas, but I'm still going to keep pushing. It feels GOOD! It would be hard to complain if I flaked mere pennies a week from here on out, b/c my original goal was 6k for flakes and I've DOUBLED it! =c)

I think that having a blog or thread for my progress would be great for accountability. Your suggestion might really help ME! Thanks for the idea!

I think you should brag. Why not it takes a lot of work to snowflake that much in such a short period of time.

I know Norma ask you to start
