Well, I have finally reached that point where I feel that my debt has now overpowered me. I have a question about Consumer Credit Counseling. I have never been late on any of my payments. Do you have to be past due on accounts before you can work with them? I do not want to get scammed by someone. How does this affect your credit rating? I am open to any and all suggestions. I am single so I don't have a husband's income that I can rely on. I lost my job in December and have just found full time work. I have about $15,000 in a personal loan and $31,000 in CC debt. Basically, I have lived off of CC. I have been looking for a part time job but have not been able to find anything. I checked three CC accounts today and all three have drastically lowered my credit limits. What should I do? I am so worried and upset that it is starting to affect me physically. My family would be stunned if they knew. I am not sure about bankruptcy. Could that affect my job? I don't have rent because I am able to live with a relative. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Hi there,
Carmen Wong Ulrich offers some good advice here......

I just recently started with CCCS/MMI. I have no complaints so far. I was not late on my bills when I started, I just couldn't manage them all on my own. The only thing I had to do was set up a date when they would deposit my money and then 8 days after that they disburse the funds. So my deposit goes on the first of each month, on the 8th they send payment to all of my creditors. What I did at the beginning was I called each of my creditors told them what I was planning on doing and asked them to change my due dates to the 15th of the month, Just to make sure that the payments got there on time. I have had no problems whatsoever. I still log onto my creditor accounts each month to make sure that my payments were received and that I was no not charged any fees, etc. But I find MMI is very supportive and helpful if you have any questions.
Good Luck.
