Remember how I lost my diamond out of my ring last Friday night? When we got home that night DH asked if I wanted to go back and look for it and I said no b/c I was over the water the whole time. The little dock has been worn smooth over time and there are way-bigger-than-my-diamond spaces between the boards. The only "land" I was on was the boat ramp so needless to say, when the rain started pouring right after we left I was pretty darn sure that my ring would have been in the water, if not already.

One week later...

We went to the same ramp and when I hopped out of the truck I went straight to the end of the dock. I saw it almost immediately. It was SITTING THERE ON THE DOCK! I bet 200 people walked right over it all week and I swear we've had 4" of rain or more, and it was just SITTING THERE. It was in a tiny groove on one of the boards but it wasn't even stuck. I just picked it right up. THAT IS INSANE! Even though it was in a little groove, there was just no way it should have stayed there through all of that pounding rain and who knows how many people walking on it.

I HAVE MY DIAMOND BACK!!! We have to have the stone reset, obviously, but I am just STUNNED.

*Happy dancing!*

Darn! I was hoping for a more dramatic story, like it fell into water and some fish swallowed it and your DH caught a fish, brought it home, and you found your diamond when you started cleaning it ... ;-)

Just kidding! I am very, very happy for you.

Shoot, why didn't I think of that? LOL.

When we got there I went to look just to know in my mind that I looked, and I saw what turned out to be "it" from a distance. It just caught my eye, but it didn't look like a diamond. It was dirty. Anyway, without a word to anyone - DH, MIL, and FIL were there w/ our two youngest kids - I got down on my knees and tried to pick it up without knocking it into the water. My hands were shaking. MIL kept saying "what are you doing?" and I couldn't answer her - and I didn't until I had that sucker in the change (ash) tray of the truck where I knew it would be fine until we got home. Anyway, after about the 5th time she asked what I was doing, DH told me that FIL said "She's praying!" HA! He may have been joking, but darn it, he was RIGHT!

(((Thanks)))!

Everyone, right now, should take a look at the prongs holding your diamond in your ring. My daughter went to the jewelers to get her class ring re-sized and while she was there she asked them to clean her diamond ring (my old engagement ring that I didn't want after my divorce). The jeweler showed her how three of the six prongs holding the diamond in were broken! I don't know how that diamond hung in there! The prongs did not appear to be broken unless you were actually looking at them, and who looks at the prongs? You would normally just look at the diamond! The ring is only about 25 years old.

Glad to hear you found your Diamond Sarah.

I take my rings in each year to have them cleaned and the claws checked. My jeweller told me that I should turn my rings around occasionally to make them wear more evenly. So about 3-4 times a year I take them off and turn them around. In 15 years I have had to have them retipped once. But then I don't remove my rings unless I am doing something really messy. Otherwise they are on 24/7.

(((Thank you!)))

Hmmm, it never occurred to have routine maintenance! I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the idea!

(((Thanks, Norma)))!

Yep, that was me and the karma thing. =c) I must have REALLY been doing something right this time! I had to take Mary Ann up on her advice and revisit my life for the last week, LOL.
