Today I spent 4+ hours working on our summer calendar. I had my list from school of free things to do and my internet for some super searching and here is what I have accomplished:
If I buy 1 family membership to our local Planetarium @ $100 dollars. I will get to go to the following museums this summer for free...and they are already put on the calendar so we're going!
The Planetarium, for one.
The Boston Museum of Science (and we're going here twice)
See Science Center (very close to my house so we can come here as much as we like)
Maine Discovery Museum (on our vacation to maine)
Dover Children's Museum
Canterbury Shaker Village
Boston Children's Museum
And there's 5 more museums, but they are not on the calendar yet and may have to wait until Fall.
I also, on top of those museums have booked some discounted library passes to go to both zoo's in our area, and a small, local museum...basically free.
I can't even tell you how many free or severely cheap programs I found for my kids to do this summer. And so fun! Like the campfire by the river and the night-hike our fishways are doing for only $5 dollars a family. Ridiculous! I just want to talk to the Planetarium and make sure that all the museums in their brochure are included in the membership. I'm very proud of myself today! I basically planned something fun to do everyday this summer for a total of about $236 dollars! My kids are going to love me!
Here's some ideas for you:
Lowe's - puts on a free project for kids on one Saturday morning a month. I registered online. They are going to make a pirate ship and a treasure chest out of wood. They will also get goggles and an apron.
My library - has a craft hour every Thursday for free. The kids will be making things like wind socks. My local art museum has free art sessions for the whole family every Wednesday. My library is putting on two plays this summer for free and showing movies in their auditorium every friday night. My local cinemas (regal cinemas) shows free movies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (like space chimps and Star Wars: Clone Wars)...tons more, I can't even list it all.
And don't worry...we're not going to get exhausted because I didn't pay for these places so I don't feel obligated to see everything. We'll spend leisurely days hanging out...that's my plan!

I have no idea! Ha!
No - actually DH has many of those days off so for some of the free movies in the mornings and library times, I'm going to have him take them. We'll see how it goes!
Abbie...
A FIVE STAR post!
Sounds really cool and much better than what my kids are doign this summer - but they are older.
Today they have a chore list and have to get tires on their car.
Tomorrow they have to wash the car and cut grass.
Wednesday they have dentist appointments.
