I've been getting discouraged because we didn't seem to be making much progress on our debt, so just to see how we were doing I updated my spreadsheet with our debt totals. I hadn't updated it since January. I discovered that since the beginning of the year we've been able to pay off about $8,000 of debt. We still owe about $46,000, plus some medical bills (maybe another $3,000), but that includes the van (we paid off the car earlier this year) and our HELOC. The credit card portion of that is about $17,400, down from about $19,000. It seems like an endless journey, but it's nice to see a dent in it.

DH is up for a promotion at work, but I'm at a point where I'll believe it when I see it. They originally said they would make a decision by the 1st quarter of this year. Then it was by June 1. Now who knows. They haven't even done interviews yet, so it doesn't seem like it will be any time soon. DH thinks it's between him and one other guy, but there might be two positions, so even if he's #2, he might get it. But who knows when (if) that will happen. That would be a huge help for us financially, though.

Overall, things are tight, but we're doing OK. Even if we don't pay anything extra on it, the van will be paid off in just over a year and that will be a huge help.

Good job! Its nice to sit back and take stock of how far you've actually come. Keeping my fingers crossed that DH's company gets a move on and he gets the promotion!

You are doing a wonderful job. 8,000 in what 6 months that is great.

As the balance go down Credit cards they will go down a lot faster but even taking them down by 2,000 is a great job. Keep up the good work.

That is fantastic! Good for you! I know this is a struggle but that is a lot of money you have paid off in a short period of time. And think about how much better things will be when that vehicle is paid off!! I do have a little advice in that area though. It seems with the the vehicles out there it is a good idea to put more away for repairs once they are paid off because thats when things start to go on them. Just a thought. Good luck on hubby's promotions too!
