hello. Just went for a follow-up appointment for getting a hearing aid (I'm 33 yrs old; but now have the time to make all the appointments to get the nipped in the butt). However, by law I can try a hearing aid for 45 days to see if it is right for me. Well I went today and found out that ; yes i can try for 45 days; BUT I have to come up with the full amount in order to try them and then if I don't like it after 45 days they refund the $ minus $100 for trying it out...so HELP; I need to snowflake or come up with $3000 by 8/4/09....is this possible; I'm just sick over it; but I'm unemployed right now and my hearing loss is really holding me back from looking seriously for another job...thanks

(((Hugs))) - That's a bear! I can truly sympathize because we had to have over 4k to cover our June expenses and another 4k to cover July (we managed to put some of June over to July at the last minute). It IS possible, but my DH makes it happen for us. If *I* had to do it on my own, I don't know WHAT I would do. I would suggest a yard sale to get started and listing some big ticket items in the free classifieds if you have them to get rid of.

I sympathize with your need for hearing aids since I know first hand how expensive they can be. I'm 35 and have worn them since I was 5. In the past when I really needed some that worked and was desperate I was able to buy used behind the ear aids for really cheap. You would only need to pay extra to have the ear pieces made and they could tide you over while you pay off debt and save up for a newer pair. Another suggestion would be to see what aid choices are available other than the ones you had priced.....non-digital aids are cheaper than digital, the larger in the ear style is cheaper than the totally in the canal style, behind the ear styles can be cheaper than in the ear, etc. Sometimes just checking with a different place would give you cheaper options - you can buy hearing aids through an ear, nose, and throat doctor and not just from a place that specializes in selling hearing aids. You also mentioned that you were unemployed and that the lack of hearing aids was affecting getting a job. In that case you might want to check with your state's vocational rehabilitation department. Often times they will cover the cost for hearing aids if it is hindering your ability to find or keep employment.

Thanks for the ideas and ((hugs)), I am going to work on this! Plus I think my other problem is that I hate change...but I know change is good. I just don't want people looking at me and bringing attention to myself...oh well thanks again!!
