Ahhhh haaaa haaaa! Ooops! LOL. My ticker is a bit painful for me, but I keep telling myself it's not as bad as it looks. Every stocking stuffer is counted separately (for seven stockings), and I also have separate lines for tape, Christmas cards, stamps, and other expenses that come with the holiday (not the food, though). Still, it all adds up to a lot of purchases, LOL!

That is a VERY cool birthday gift! Enjoy it, girl!

No fear about getting in the holiday mood for me until at least after Thanksgiving.

Even though I have a terrific start on my Christmas club with over $300 put back, I agree.

Well I've really been thinking about it (what else am I going to do when riding a bike an hour two and from work . . . lol) and I came up with a brilliant idea.

BF is an amateur (sp?) photographer. He is working on his portfolio and just recently bought some new lenses. We decided that he is going to take some nice black and white photographs of my sister and I and Voila, gifts for the family with minimal cost. We did this several years ago and everyone LOVED them!

In terms of shopping, I think I am going to wait until closer to Christmas. The only thing I can see myself picking up in advance are stocking stuffer type things (in our family it tends to be toiletry type items). They don't go bad and even if they have them, you can always used toothpaste and deodorant! When they go onsale I will grab some!

Other then that I can't wait until the Christmas decorations come out because I will be buying new stockings. This is our first Christmas living together and I am super excited.

I just have to figure out how the heck to resolve my mom and dad (divorced) and his mom and dad (divorced) who all want a piece of us at Christmas???

Now that I konw you love collecting recipes and what not, this may be an idea.

Last year we all agreed to $15 per person or $30 for a couple gift (6) couples on both sides of the family.

So, does anybody here have little ones who still do the "Santa" thing? I found last year that I run into trouble because DS 12 knows it's me and DS 6 is still happily unaware. Plus, with the age difference, the stuff DS 12 wants is usually electronic which means less to open but still expensive compared to toys for a 6yr old. I feel like I should plan a spending cap for each boy but I also try to make the 'piles' look equal. I'm not at all sure what to do this year as its the first Christmas that I haven't just splurged. The last two years they each started in late October and made a Christmas list in order of "most wanted gifts". Then I'd have them redo it without seeing the original in Nov and once in Dec before I shopped. The items that consistently were on all three lists were what I searched for first and so on. That ensured that what they got was stuff they really used and enjoyed but it didn't stop me from seeing something and wanting them to have it and it didn't stop me from splurging instead of having a spending cap.

Any ideas how to plan, how much to allocate to each child (LOL, is there a percentage guideline based on income like with the budgets for housing, entertainment etc) - and should it be equal amounts of money & number of gifts for both kiddos or not, how to make the piles seem the same to the 6yr olds eye if the number isn't...

Lissa (Though I'm tempted to just break the news to little one, that would be unfair and selfish. I kept big one believing as long as I could so little one deserves as much as possible.)

When my oldest DS was 7y/o his second grade teacher took it upon herself to tell him there was no santa claus and to make a discussion of it in class.
