I am starting a grocery experiment...

I have read in several places that serious grocery shoppers (the coupon divas, etc.) keep a grocery price book.

Kind of... In the past I did mystery shopping for a grocery chain that required me to shop for various items in each store.
The site I mentioned in my PP is:
Hi Robyn!
Experiment and run with any idea that challenges you!
Check this site out for a computer grocery list and more might help you.

I read a book once said if you are a twice a week shopper try to extend the time between trips by one
I like your idea.

I've actually been thinking about doing this, as well. We shop at a few different places, and I've mostly got prices in my head, but could do better. I was at BJ's yesterday, and started jotting down prices -- by unit size, of course -- and did see some big differences compared to my local supermarket. Whether they are better than the supermarket's sale prices, though, I don't know -- and a price book would really help with that.
I'm very bad at coupons, and we don't get the paper so unless the carrier accidentally drops the coupon bag on our driveway we don't usually get them. I mostly rely on the sales sheets, which I look up online.
I just might start this experiment along with you...
It would be really interesting to see the result of your experiment! Whether it works for you or not, it is fun to try something new.
I am not sure that approach would work for me. I have a severe aversion to Walmart (long story, more along the line of not paying workers a living wage, taking jobs away from Americans, importing lousy and sometimes dangerous Chinese products, etc. Meanwhile if you go to their corporate headquarters, there are 17 top of the line private jets).
There are rarely coupons for fresh produce. I do find reading the sales flyers and working my list/meal plans somewhat around what is fresh and cheap quite helpful.
And since I am shopping (mostly) for one, it doesn't really make that much of a difference where I go. There are three stores I like, and in the summertime I also hit the farmers market from time to time. As to stretching out the time between shopping trips, it is difficult to do when most my meals are centered around fresh produce. After a few days, the fruits look sad and salad goes limp.
You are more than welcome to join me!
What do you use coupons for?
