Sometimes all it takes is a sign

OK I am going to try this again since I just lost the first one! ACK!

DH is headed to FL tomorrow to visit his dad who had to have emergency triple by-pass surgery this week. He is doing well which is good news.

The not so great news is that the short notice, quick trip plane ticket cost $450 plus hotel and food we are looking at $650, which we had to pay with the money we had set aside for my fall tuition. I am not angry at all that we had to pay for the ticket. Family first I would not expect anything else.

But now we most definitely do not have the money for my fall tuition. As you know I have been on the fence about what to do about school......sometimes a sign is all one needs to help decide what path to choose.

This morning I met with the manager at a local trendy restaurant and after talking with her for about 30-minutes she hired me! Part-time 3-shifts a week as a waitress. Funny it felt good to get hired right on the spot.

So I have made my decision. I will not be attending graduate school part-time in the fall; instead I will be working at a 2nd job. I am still waiting to hear from the school if I can defer for a year, leaving the possibility open for me to go next year. If not, life goes on.

Truth is I don't NEED another degree. It is a great benefit and it would be an achievement and it is something that interests me,but I don't NEED the degree...I can read all the books on my own if I really want to! Maybe it sounds like I am trying to convince myself....maybe maybe not. But what I do NEED is to get some bills paid down. For my sanity I NEED to. Financial worry is the single biggest stressor for me and I am determined to get this certain chunk of debt out of my life as soon as possible. It won't disappear overnight but working this job will help.

DH's decision about his job is on hold until he gets back from FL - one hurdle at a time.

Thank you all for your advice and support on this. None of us know what the future holds but I do think I am making the best choice for me at this time.

Hi,

You sound very happy with your decision and that is all that really matters. I used to waitress, it can be fun, exercise and a great way to make some more money. Good luck with your debt repayment and I hope you find some peace of mind fast tracking your debt repayment.

If it is the right eating place you can do really good with tips.

My soon to be daughter in law was a waitress and she told my son that she made around 1000.00 a week working full time.

That is more then he is making after taxes as an engineer. funny right.

The fact is that you already have one Master's degree, and if anything a PhD would be the next phase for you anyway.
