Depressed again

After your supportive responses to my intro, I finally summoned up the nerve to start getting my free credit reports. Lets just say I only got as far as one.

There are multiple bills in collection/on the S list in there, bills that I thought the ex friggin paid and also ones that I believe we should have had covered by insurance we had at the time (I'll have to find the ancient ins cards -- this was more than 4 years ago).

I'm so upset. I believed that I only had to pay this damn CC debt I have and then it would be saving for a apt, home, something for my kids other than this humiliating hell of living in my mom's house.

Its like I came to the top of the mountain and on the other side is another one, twice the size of the one I'm standing on :(

I'm not sure, but it sounds like those old bills were "charged off."

Better that you find all this information out now before you go out looking for an apartment or try to buy a car or something.

I am older then most on the board and I really see nothing wrong with a child living with an older parent or an older parent living with a child. To me many times it makes perfect sense. My mother lived with my husband and I for 14 years before she died.

I just wanted to point out that you have paid off over $7500 in CC debt (based on your ticker!!!) That is amazing!!! You're almost halfway there!!!

In terms of the CC's, I can't remember what your timelines are for wanting to move out. BUT I do agree with PP's to check the dates of last activity. If they are close to 7 years, just leave it

Hey FF09,

You can do this. Sometimes it is a one step forward, two steps back dance and that is a fact.

My first step would beto make sure the ex husband can no longer damage your report in ANY way. Then I would work on the ones that damaged on the report. I agree with PPs. Check the dates on them. If they are old, let them slide off. How do you feel about your mom co-signing(anyone else that could do this for you?) to get an apartment on your own? Could you phone some places you are interested in applying for to see what they require for approval?

This will not go away over night. But be persistent and it will go away. And then you can look back and say "I fixed it, that was me, I did it!!"

Keep going.......it will get better.

Thanks guys....I'll look closely at all 3 of the reports, print them so I know everything.

Its funny, the first time I saw that collection stuff I immediately closed the browser window, shut the laptop and went to play with my kids. You know how it is....the first impulse is "IF I DON'T LOOK AT IT, IT ISN'T THERE!" ;) Which gets most people in trouble in the first place..

I'll let you know what I figure out.
