Living With Family?

We are in the process of paying off debt and hope to be debt free somewhere in the future. We have the opportunity to move in with my family to save on housing costs. At first it would be in their single family house. Then my Step FIL who has built homes before will build us an addition so the house is a 2 family eventually and we will pay rent (half their mortgage for our side).
Once it is a 2 family I think the situation would work well for us. However, until then I am worried about the risk of drama of us all living in 1 house. Anyone move in with family to pay off debt faster? Is this a good idea or should we stay on the slower debt pay off plan we are on now and in our own home?

I lived with my parents off and on and still stay there on the weekends because I have to be in town every week and can't afford to keep a place just for the weekends.
I lived there for 6 months.
I lived with my parents, with an 11 year old child, and sometimes a husband while we were trying to sell a home in Ohio, due to my transfer to Michigan.
I never moved in with my parents but my mother moved in with us because she could no long support herself. Her doctor bills and meds got so high that she didn't have enough money to feed herself
I think it takes a special group to get along.
