I went to the library today looking for the 3rd book in one of my favorite series and it wasn't there! In the past, I would have gone straight to the bookstore to get it, but instead I requested a copy from another library. Who knows how long it will take. It's like torture! And as I was walking out of the library I started thinking about books I have bought at home and just cannot part with, books that I would buy in a heartbeat and never wait at the library for...

Do you have a favorite series that you just can't bother getting at the library, even though it's cheaper?

My favorite series of all time is 'The Fever' series by Karen Marie Moning, a 5 part story with the first 3 already out and the 4th on it's way. It's a paranormal/urban fantasy series. They classify it as romance but it doesn't fit the mold. Her next book in the series is coming out on August 18th and I'll be there dishing out 25 bucks on the hardcover no matter what!

I read a lot of non-fiction (particulary finance books), but I get those from the public library.

I have actually read the 1st 3 "Fever" books from the library...aren't they good?!

My library doesn't have Sophie Kinsella books, even on reserve, so I buy those, usually at the local used bookstore.

There used to be a ton of authors that I bought in hardback and kept, but my ex- has most of them now.

I don't know if anyone is a classical book fan (sometimes I am in the mood for Jane Austen), but Barnes and Noble is offering an electronic book reader that works on your computer or any palm or Iphone. The reader comes with a bunch of free classical books and you can buy new books for $9.99. I have an Iphone and use the Amazon Kindle application on it. I wasn't sure that I would like reading off my phone, but I LOVE it. All the new books that I might spend $15 to $25 on are $9.99 as soon as they come out. I really like reading off the phone, having it save my page, turning the page with my finger, and having a built-in nighlight on it when I am reading in bed next to a sleeping baby. Plus it is MUCH less clutter in the house - I used to have bookcases full of books, but now they are all in my phone. The Kindle and Barnes and Noble applications are free too.

I tend to be very careful about the books that I actually purchase.

The Difference sounds like a really interesting book. You'll have to let me know how it is. I've always wanted to read the shopaholic series but I find myself interested in either historical, or fantasy type worlds. Anything that takes place in the here and now I have a hard time getting into. I guess my life needs a complete fantasy world in order to get away! :)

I almost died after Karen's 3rd book in the series. How could she leave off on such a cliff hanger!?! She tends to write a little slower than other author's but she has lime disease and has to be really careful not to overextend herself. So I knew I had to wait an entire year before the next one. I'm really excited that I only have a few more weeks to wait. If you like romance, her highlander series is really great as well. That's my guilty pleasure...romance, but it has to have a plot. If I start reading pages and pages of you know what, it bores the heck out of me!

Another author I enjoy is Marjorie M Liu. She is kind of unheard of but she is an incredible writer in the urban fantasy world. She was chosen by marvel comics to write some of their X-men books.

My favorite cookbook is the vita-mix blender one! I have a vita-mix which is a really expensive blender. Last night I made a delicious soup all out of raw vegetables.

I wonder if my library does that. I'll have to check that out. I know that they recently had a book sale, but that only happens once a year.

I got that email from B&N about the electronic book reader. I was thinking that it would be really hard to read on my computer though and I don't have a fancy phone. I really really want one of those book readers for Christmas or my birthday but they are so expensive. It would definitely help with my book clutter though! What is the kindle? I've heard of it, but I'm not quite sure what it is.

I read one "horror" book a while ago. It was by Scott Smith and I only bought it because Stephen King said it was the 'best horror novel of the new century'. It was pretty good. They made a movie of it, but they butchered it! I have always been afraid of Stepehen King books because I thought they would be too scary, but I think seeing it on the screen is more terrifying than reading it. I think I read a few Isaac Asimov books as a teenager. I love the science fiction genre as well.
