You are at least in a spot with little debt and you have been able to adjust through this pretty well.
That daycare closing might be your answer to more business, be sure to get the word out that you have openings, even a sign at the grocery store. Now is the time teachers and others who had the summer off will be going back to their jobs and there is probably someone out there who needs daycare. Another place to look is at your church, work in the nursery on Sunday and surely you can find a mom in need.
I agree with Marie. Having the daycare close my be a blessing to you. Those kids need to go somewhere! Just hang in a little longer. The economy is slowly starting to turn and hopefully your families will get jobs back and you will get clients again.
Good luck!
PS- Congrats on the lack of CC debt! Thats awesome!

You daycare moms need to put yourself in the shoes of your clients for a week or so to figure out where they are and when you can connect with them. (You have your own business, you need to think like a business person and look at marketing strategies.) If you are looking for an 8-5 mom whose children to sit, where is that mom hanging out in your area? She is most likely time pressed, and will not be at the library or places where SAHMs congregate. She might, however be at the local McDs at around 6 feeding her family, or running around a grocery store picking up dinner, or at a tee ball or baseball game for young kids. Flyers at the grocery store, on cars at the ball field, or somewhere near a McDs might be someplace where you will get hits. I can guarentee you she does not have time for the newspaper, but might surf the net, so a post on Craig's list might also be fruitful. Can you call the HR departments at any of the larger companies in town and tell them that you are certified and have services available for short term drops? Sometimes a short term can turn into a long term situation. Just think creatively. -Marie
Hey I'm so jealous you are one of those "just have the mortgage left" I hope to be one of those at some point. You do inspire me to push myself to reach for this goal.
Just when I got out of personal debt I realized I had more/new goals. Some times it takes awhile for those to get a move on, especially when you have Plan A, B, C. (help DS, pay down mortgage).
I hope you get more work soon. Maybe its time to explore other options? Grocery store hours? Something to fill your Saturdays and evenings time slot. I agree with PPs. Some people will be going back to work in September and maybe there will be new opportunities for day care kids where the mom is off maternity leave and needs to go back to work?
Good luck, chin up. You will be flaking in no time.
Hey, vent away, we have ALL earned that right.
