Hi Everyone!
Haven't been around in a while. My computer at home is on the fritz and I got laid off in May and I have to run to the library with two little ones to check the computer if I need to. For once I am alone today at the library - husband is home! Wanted to pop in and share some inspiration!
We started off last July with my hiding debt from DH. LONG story here but he knew of about $12K of c/c debt and I kept everything else hidden from him. It spiraled to about $28,000 in debt and he knew nothing about it. I was shuffling money around and I did pay all the bills on time but I could never get a break on those c/c's. Our interest on one was 18% and the other was 12%. No matter what I did - I couldn't get them to lower our interest. I called, pleaded, etc.
Anyway, You know what hit the fan last July and hubbie found out about the hidden debt. It made us stronger as a couple - we opened our lines of communication and things got better.
Would you believe today - we only owe $4,024. And we are expecting a check from our refinance from our escrow account in the amount of $2,500 and that will go on our c/c. So that will leave us owing about $1,500.
I can't believe in about 13 months we went from owing $28,000 to being down to $4,000 and ALMOST being down to $1,500.
Just want to say IT CAN BE DONE! Hard work, layoff for me, but we did it. I had two jobs - got laid off and now am collecting unemployment and we are STILL making it work.
Cutting back and saving and making life changes DOES make a difference. We did come into a windfall of money - $9K from hubbie's retro pay that we need and we got a large tax return $8K so we did have large chunks to pay off debt but I am telling you all- it can be done and YOU CAN DO IT!
Just wanted to also thank everyone. I was on this board day after day sometimes and I needed you all. I needed the good stories and the bad to keep me realizing what I was doing wrong and what I needed to do day after day.
Thank you all.
