A few weeks ago I lost my debit card. Since then I've been using DH's card when I needed to or I'd cash a check and use cash. I called and reported it and it finally arrived. I opened it and it was in DH's name. Grrrrr! That was on a Saturday, I think. I didn't get around to calling again right away.
On Friday DH got paid. We were out running some errands. He had to work that night so I asked him to either leave me his debit card or stop at the credit union so I could get some cash. He said he'd just leave his card with me. We got home and I was busy with something. He asked me if I wanted him to call the CU to request a new card for me. I said yes, so he called. He explained the situation and asked them at least 3 or 4 times to verify that they were requesting a new card for me. Soon after that he was getting ready for work. Suddenly he "needed" gas and something else (the gas was a legitimate need, whatever else he wanted wasn't). I told him to just take the card and I'd get groceries in the morning. A few minutes later he called from the gas station. They had canceled his card again.
At that point we were going to be stuck with no food and no money for the weekend, so I decided to try to get to the CU before they closed to cash a check. I was able to get there. I got some cash and went for groceries. That cash had to last us the weekend. it did - barely and on his way home from work this morning he stopped at the CU to get his card reactivated. My card is supposedly ordered, so we'll see if I actually get it. Having a limited amount of cash and knowing we didn't have access to any more until today really kept the spending in check.

My question is why didn't you call yourself? Why did it have to be your husband?
This one way. Have you considered doing it one weekend a month on purpose every month now that you know it can be done? Just a thought. I hope you get your card soon.
You just discovered what the banks didn't want you to find out, that you do spend less if you use CASH.
I have recently started doing this myself (after a disastrous few days in early June where I was charged multiple
Hi all
OK I will probably
I guess I am a dinosaur, because I remember the pre-debit-card days very well.
