Dishwasher and fridge bit the dust :(

Hi All,
It was quite a night for me. First, I did the balance transfer to pay off the SUV with my low rate CC. It makes me nervous to have a CC with such a large amount on it, but in the long run, it will take over a year off of the payments (I was under a three year with SUV and doing what I'm doing now I'll have it paid off in 1 year 9 months!!!)
On a sad note, my dishwasher and fridge bit the dust. I am wondering if it was a surge because it seems odd to me to have both go at once (and we have had storms coming out the ying yang here!!). Regardless, I went appliance shopping last night. I got a great deal on a fridge and stove with no interest no payments

Oh, sounds like a surge for sure.

If it was a surge, it could be covered on your homeowners insurance, check it out.

Oh dear, two at once is not fun. I hope that works out with your mom and the $50 until it is paid.
I hope things get boring for you soon Bex. You sound like you are headed to the "being over extended" realm. Gosh money is so stupid!!
Take it easy.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts.
Marie, I looked into the home owners, but my deductible is $1000.00 anyways. I decided to go this route because I can claim 2/3 of the appliances on my taxes as a rental expense (since I rent out 2 of 3 rooms, 2/3 of most expenses related to the house are a tax deduction). Not a huge amount, but its better then having my rates go up!!!
GSL you are also correct. I am starting to feel like I am getting close to the danger zone. I was playing with numbers today (because thats what I do) and the good news is that I am one paycheck away from maxing out my CPP contributions. So Starting September 2 I will have an extra $125 a paycheck. That money will not be counted and is now going directly to pay off the appliances. That will give me 8 paychecks with $125 which is exactly what I need to cover the dishwasher. This way I am not relying on my mom paying me back. If she does, great, I can have everything gone in 5-6 months. If not, I can still cover it.
It would have been nice to be able to use those paychecks towards savings or paying down the CC, but it is what it is. It won't affect my payoff date for the SUV/CC mix!!

Hi Bex,
I'm curious why you bought a stove if it's the fridge and the dishwasher that need replacing? Is it the end of the world if the fridge doesn't match the stove? I know it's nice if they do, and you can probably tell I grew up *without* matching appliances...
Also, I've never had a dishwasher, except for a couple of months in a rental. It's just my opinion, but would you consider living without a dishwasher and adding that $125/pay from having reached your CPP max to your SUV/cc payments until the suv is paid off? That is what I personally would do. If you are renting to your sister surely she would understand, it's not like you have to have a dishwasher for part of rental contract to a stranger.
Just my two cents. And I too hope things get boring for you soon :)
Lol that was a typo. I didn't buy the stove :)
I bought the fridge and dishwasher. Once I have the money saved up to buy a stove CASH then I will get one that matches, lol.
I was thinking about going without a dishwasher, and you are correct, its not essential, but it is important for my sanity. My sis and BF god love em' are not the tidiest people in the world. As it stands, almost 75% of the dishes are done by me (and I have tried everything to change that . .
