How much have you spent on BTS schopping

School starts for us on Tuesday and I've done a lot of work this year to try and avoid school shopping. I went through every piece of clothing in my entire house...even the ones in boxes that were put away. I made my kids stand there and try on things in different sizes that I threw at them just to see if they fit. And wonderfully I found out that my only child that needed clothes was my oldest. I also had a 20% off coupon at gymboree so I went through their clearance and bought him 2 t-shirts and some shorts, 2 long-sleeved shirts and a pair of pants for 60 dollars. Not the greatest prices I ever payed, but gymboree's clothes tend to last me through all three kids which is rare! My son needs a few more items, some jeans and a new pair of shoes and a sweatshirt, but I'm waiting on those sales to come. Plus, his birthday is in a few weeks.

Then I was all set to tackle school supplies when my mom gives me a call and says she wants to take the kids school shopping. WHOO! She bought them new backpacks and lunchboxes and all their school supplies, which cost her $115 dollars! I was so relieved that I didn't have to spend that!

I have some big spending coming up...my DH's 30th Surprise birthday party is next weekend. I'm responsible for the cake, decorations and a few other things. I'm anticipating that I'll be spending at least $50 dollars. Then my DS is having a birthday and we're going to take a few of his good friends to a lazer tag place. Then 3 weeks later I have my other 2 DS's birthdays and we're doing a big birthday for them together. DS's parents will split the cost with us, and our half will be about $200 dollars.

How have you made out with school shopping?

We don't have any kind of fees that have to be paid - other than a parking permit for my son (daugther is in college - she has about $500.00 in fees!) but none of our schools from Pre-k through 12th have fees.

My only school kid is in preschool (public, sp ed). So far, all we've gotten her is a backpack ($12) and some new shoes ($10). We havent bought new clothes, because it's still 100 degrees here so she's wearing her summer stuff. I'll buy her new jeans and pants when all the school clothes go on clearance (I usually make out pretty good on children's place clearance stuff).

I have spent quite a bit on art supplies. I shop the sales and stock up. So, I've probably spent another $25 or so on markers, glue, watercolors, crayons, construction paper, etc that we'll use at home. Hopefully, it will last us until the BTS sales next year :)

So far I've spent about $180 in fees and $150 in supplies and shoes. Most of the fees and supplies including a backpack were for DS 13. DS 9 and DS 6 were able to get by using supplies I had on hand so only fees and 2 pairs of shoes for the younger one. DD4 is in preschool so I only had to buy her 2 pairs of shoes (and a school box and scissors since her brothers had them and she really wanted her own). All of them still need jeans but I will get them later when the weather starts getting colder. Oldest DS started school last week and so far no requests for more money. The other 2 boys started today so we'll see if they'll need any more money for fees or any other supplies.

I can relate to all the fees and supply costs, then throw in pay to play fees, parking fees, pictures.....
DD
Senior Pictures - $595
Parking pass - $45
Pay to play volleyball - $100
Volleyball warm-ups $63
Schools supplies for DD $20, gave them cash and they get notebooks, mechanical pencils, a couple pens and still need money for a binder. In HS they don't get a "list" they figure out what they both need and just get that.

DS
Pictures - $62
Schools supplies $30 he got his binders
Shoes - $40
Socks and underwear - $24 so far
He needs clothes as he gained another inch and a half in height this summer so his pants are short and shirts go up to his belly button (he is now just shy of 6'2")

$949 so far with no clothes from American Eagle for either YET.

I am totally BROKE this week. I knew it would be hard to make it to my next pay on September 4, but things kept hitting me from all sides.

Checking balance is now -$131 after almost all is paid. DD now wants $20 for gas and has a grocery list on the refrigerator. I mean we are out of bread and basics again.

I'm tired, I worked three 13-16 hour days each of the last three weeks along with my regular schedule. I don't even have time to TAKE them BTS shopping.

When will this madness end?
