spending state of mind

It's that time of year again. Every year when September rolls around I get
inundated with a large amount of neccessary spending. This inevidably leads to
my metality switching from saving/debt repayment mode, to spending mode.

Oh, I totally empathize!
Not only back to school expenses, but I have a lot of fall birthdays (mom, mother-in-law, and daughter - my biggest spends) house issues, and we have a lot to throw into the business right now.

DH slipped me money to go to a craft show with his mom and sister yesterday as part of my birthday present, it was $100!!! He told me he was proud of my savings and wanted me to have some fun. Well I thought it would be better put into saving so I tucked it into my wallet, determined not to spend it. BUT spend I did, almost the entire $100! I got a couple cheap $1 bracelets for DD, a gift for my SIL for Christmas, but MOST WAS FOR ME. I got a quilted jean jacket with lighthouses ($35), and two t-shirts with embroidered lighthouses (2 for $10), a few jewelry items and something for DH's grandma. Wow, I have not spent like that in over a year. I watched some women pull out credit cards to pay with and I smiled as I had cash, but it was a lot of spending for just me. Oh, I also got DH a mug with lighthouses (Michigan has a ton of lighthouses and I love looking over our great lakes, someday we will have a house on Lake Huron - or so we dream.)

So I got the spending bug out, I hope. We stopped to see Dh's grandma at the nursing home, and she gave me a card with money, she is such a great, vibrant 96 year old! (I think she knows how much I adore DH and her and I connect really well.) But enough to take my eFUnd back over $1000!!!!

I can't wait to put it in the bank and do a happy dance!

I, too, am right there with your mindset, Stacy.

I often wonder if there is a chemical difference in the brain of a person who is spending money when compared to someone who is in the saving mindset.

Yea, that little bug bit me in the butt last week!

BTS and I took my kids to the eye doctor and paid $50 for another test that the primary insurance didn't cover. I am going to try to get reimbursed for that $50 with my other insurance. But I am in the middle of switching right now so I don't know how that will go. Plus I got the kids some clothes. That I am proud of, I didn't go over board on. They may need some more though later. Plus they need all new out door wear for when it snows and I have not put that in the budget yet. That is going to be very expensive this year.

We also need to insulate the downstairs this fall. We have some things but need more. Plus bf ripped apart the bathroom down stairs and we also have some things for it but will need quite a few more. It will be done on the cheap but it seems nothing is ever really cheap when you are renovating!

I thought the bugs were supposed to go away when the nice weather left LOL!

Norma -

If you and DH don't get sick or anything, then wait until after 10/1 before paying the Cobra.

I mean if you have had claims during the month, you will need the Cobra coverage to pay them.

I would call BCBS and ask them, but don't give them your information.
