My two cents would be that until you get a fully funded efund (I would shoot for $1,000 if I were you) that you split all flakes in half until its funded.
$250 to efund $250 to c/c
If you have kids then you are well aware that $400 doesn't go far. What if the car breaks down and the bill is $500? Or what if one of the kids needs something MAJOR and that's $200? That leaves your $400 efund depleted in half. Just a thought.
I am like you - if I have cash - I will spend. I transfer all extra money into savings which I can't access unless I go TO the bank which is a PIA with two little ones. If you worry about selling yourself short til payday make sure you have extra in efund in CASE something happens.
You are doing great - $500 to flake is a ton of money!
My thinking may be different than most but what helped me finally get to the other side, was to get a written budget in place and at least get $500 in an emergency fund so
Far from an expert here.....
