...But I was reading articles about the expectations for the upcoming holidays, and I was wondering what you were thinking about this so far:

Are you planning on spending on new holiday decorations this year?

We usually have "Mr. Pumpkin" to decorate for Halloween.

I have a lot of Christmas decorations. Probably came from my overspending when we first moved into this house. I usually buy all of my ornaments from Homegoods where you can get really good quality ornaments for cheap prices. I bought a Swarovski Tree Topper there for $25 dollars on clearance once! I also have a lot of hand-me-down ornaments from my mother. Basically, I have enough ornaments to decorate my whole house! I have so many I can't even keep them in our small condo. We store them at the in-laws house so it's a hassle just to haul them to my house! Last year we decided to get a small tree. We have 10 foot ceilings so we used to buy the biggest tree we could find. Heavy, cumbersome suckers that drop needles like crazy! I didn't want the hassle, so we bought a tree small enough to put on an end table. You can't even tell the difference with the way I place it and it takes half as many lights and ornaments to make it look nice. Much easier. We'll do the same thing this year.

Last year we had a really small Christmas and I can't foresee this year being any different. We used to spend about $50 dollars per person, but downgraded to about $30 per person last year.

I don't do much on Thanksgiving besides make a cheesecake and a pie or something. The in-laws cook the big dinner and that's just fine with me!

Halloween - I have a ton of costumes from over the years. I actually bought the cutest costume ever last year on clearance for my 2 year old. It was a $5 dollar costume from Gymboree. He's going to be mini dracula. Oldest son has an Anikin Skywalker costume that he wore last year but it didn't quite fit and my middle son will wear his Batman costume again. My kids aren't picky! They wear what I tell them to wear so we don't have to go through the "What do you want to be this year" thing.

I'm not really looking forward to the holidays. It's just a time to derail my savings!

We don't decorate for Halloween or Thanksgiving, and since getting the dog (almost four years ago), we haven't decorated for Christmas, either.
