Major Setback after much improvement

Hi All,
I have been AWOL for a couple of weeks...was working hard with my Accountant about an IRS letter that came last month stating that I had to give back 1290.00 for Childcare Credit (I paid friggin over 22k that year!) It was for 2007 taxes but the guy I used for 2008 reviewed them for free (had pity on me). I thought that since I was still just separated and had huge debt that I'd save money using TurboTax. Never again--filing last spring using the accountant for 2008 taxes was cheaper (100 bucks)than being nailed for potential screw ups doing it myself.
Anyways I only made 2 out of 3 criteria, living with my Mom nixed me. Damit the reason I did live with my Mom is that I can't afford to rent an apt because of my *&^(*&% loser deadbeat Ex (claims he is working so hard to find a job -- for the last 3 years).
That plus $700 on the card for the kids' before/after care last month jacked me back over 10k (WAS a milestone) up to over 12k again. I'm so p.o.'d. And the Holidays are coming (lets skip them please).
Well, I'm gonna have to tell the IRS I can pay within 3 months, which won't cost interest (HERE is the best part, I got the letter a month ago put THEY HAD ADDED BACK DATED INTEREST ALL THE WAY TO APRIL WHEN I FILED!) Major expletives.
Well, thanks for letting me vent. I'm just so depressed, like everytime I get rowing to shore something comes along and drills another hole in my boat that I have to plug :(

Gosh, I'm sorry about your ordeal but it sounds like you have a plan in place.
It's great that mom has allowed you to stay with her but I suppose she really enjoys her grandkids and yourself being close.
I keep reading in the news and hearing from everywhere how difficult things are for many of us.
What I'm learning from all of you is that you need to plan, keep chin up and work at it.
All the best,
Duke
Ouch, that hurts!

We have to remember this is a journey. Sometimes we take two steps forward and one step back, and the bumps really suck. Do NOT lose focus.
Godddd I hate paying taxes!!
You can do this, chin up!
Ugh.
I have always been proud of my tax-preparation skills... until last year!
In my taxes for 2007, I had to account for some stock options of my ex-husband's that I cashed in but for which he ended up paying medicare, social security, and income tax. So he had to back out the numbers, which was an easy case of subtraction, and I had to claim the income.
Long story short, I got it wrong. This month I got a bill for $900, darn. That's on top of a previous unexpected flood insurance premium to the tune of $1365 because of a FEMA assessment of the tiny creek in my back yard.
My budget is in shambles, but I'm hanging in there.
Needless to say, I am so sorry you're getting this grief too!
Yeah, thats the worst part...
My payback will probably go towards the refund of some richie rich upper class punk-A so that he/she can have a nice dinner party this winter at the condo in Aspen. >:o(
I just want to say...I adore your dry, dare I say almost dark sense of humor.
You should consider part time work as a stand up comic...maybe opening for Kathy Griffin or Margaret Cho.
Hmmm,
If you ever find out where that party is....I'll go with you and we can crash it. Best case: you find a rich sugar daddy husband. Worst Case: We can drink all their booze and puke in an expensive vase for pay back.
Its a win win.
(I'm really sorry if this offended anyone!)
There are rich people and there are rich people. As much as I do not agree with McCain on many things, anyone making less than $250,000 belongs to the "middle class" these days.
Personally I know someone who made $2.2 million last year, and his effective tax rate was less than 20%.
And Warren Buffet paid less tax (percentage wise) than his secretary:
