Over Saving

I've been so excited about saving money lately, that I think I've been transferring a little too much money over to savings. Last week I had a hard time making ends meet with groceries and gas and this week after getting paid, paying bills and putting money in savings, I've got only $110 dollars to my name until Tuesday and I'm not sure that's enough to last us. I usually spend $150 a week on groceries and $30 on gas. I've decided to cut down on groceries this week and I don't think we need gas. Hopefully we can make it on this little until I get paid on Tuesday. I almost have enough money to pay my mortgage and I don't want to have to take money away!

I haven't gotten to the point where I've even started thinking about all the categories I need to save in. DH has a 401K that we are saving a little bit in, but right now I just have one savings category and I'm trying to put as much into it as I can so I can get my life back on track. I guess on those weeks where I overspend on things I forgot to think about, I'll just take money out. The thing about us is that in our budget, we should have $500 dollars left over each month. We make more money than we spend on our bills. We're just not being very smart about how we spend it. I guess when you take $500 dollars a month, that's only about $100 dollars a week and that is an easy amount to blow on stupid things like walmart trips and eating out. My goal right now is to save as much as I can because we have nothing in savings, we need a new washer and we need a new car and we have to finish paying off the rest of our debt. After we're done doing all of that, I will be more realistic about saving.

Thanks for the clarification. What you said makes sense.

I guess we need to have a efund, short-term savings, and long-term savings.
