Had a medical scare

Well its been a tough two days. Early in the week I started getting headaches. Nothing major, but since I don't usually get them, it was noticable. Yesterday it got worse and by mid day, I lost my vision!! It was like someone had taken a camera flash so there was a big white light in my direct vision and sparkles in the peripheral.

Once I got my sight back I went to the urgent care clinic. The doc here wasn't entirely sure what was wrong so he gave me pain killers (prescription 1) and made an appointment with the specialist (today).

So today I was the specialist and after a battery of tests it seems I suffer from opthalmic migraines. These are migraines caused by spasms in the vessels that bring blood to the eyes (!!!) but luckily I don't have the pain that often comes with migraines. So I was presribed a myriad of drugs and sent on my way. I'm lucky because it could be worse.

So I went to get the prescriptions filled (2,3,4) and in

I totally understand where you are coming from. I also suffer from migraines, I get the pain, vomiting, etc... After dealing with it for so long I went to my doctor and she sent me for a CT-Scan and MRI of my braing (all were normal). I work for an outpatient imaging facility so I thought maybe my place of employment wouldn't make me pay the $500 deductible that comes with my insurance...boy was I wrong. I received the bill just the other day and indeed my place of employment is make me pay the bill. So I will be getting a bonus in a few weeks from my employer and some of that is going right towards that bill. It really sucks.
On the other hand, if the medicine bills get too out of hand, check with the drug manufactures to see if they have any programs for financial aide so to speak. And ask your doctor for samples.
Good luck and hopefully your headaches will be kept at bay.

I have had a similar experience although not as severe as you. I was really stressed out this day and all of a sudden I had a really bright floating line in my vision and it would pulse. I couldn't stop seeing it and I was freaking out! I did some research and it said that changes in vision could be a precursor to a stroke. I called my mom, she's a nurse, and she told me that she has experienced the same thing and that they are visual migraines. That was the first and last time it ever happened, but boy was it scary!

((Bex)) - I don't know what's scarier - losing your vision or seeing a $700 rx! Big hugs, girl! I'm glad you have insurance!

Oh my, that would be scary! Hopefully it doesn't happen again to that degree. Take it easy.

Oh, Bex!

So relieved you are Ok. I used to suffer from migraines quite a bit, but they seem to have cleared up in recent years. I think many changes contributed to my no longer suffering, although florescent lights can set me off pretty quickly.

Hugs to you,

Dee

Very scary...Glad they figured it out...

I get the painful migraines a few times a year...and for two days I need meds and darkness...

When I was a teen I used to get them frequently...

Glad your better...
