I usually spend much too much money on Halloween and this year I think the grand total for candy (we get tons of trick or treaters), decorations and costumes was under $60.

Usually the kids want new costumes every year but this year we dug into the cooostume bin mostly reused bits and pieces of old costumes and they were very funny and very creative. My oldest son has a tuxedo for orchestra and he stuff the tummy, used a cane and a top hat leftover from past years and had monopoly money spilling out of his pockets as the banker from monopoly. I bought a $20 witch costume for my daughter and we added cobwebs, make-up, plastic spiders and a white wig. And the best costume of all was my skinny middle son who wore an old scraggly black wig we had, too short blacks pants, white socks and black shoes, mirrored sunglasses, one sequined glove and a black hat. You guessed it -- Michael Jackson. With a little white face make-up he looked so much like him it was scary. Anyway, the costumes looked great and I was so glad not to overspend. now if I could just do the same for Christmas.

Our Hallowe'en was very inexpensive. My youngest daughter used a plush costume of a dog that we already had. My eldest daughter was Hannah Montana. She wore a pair of funky jeans that she already has. She got a wig for Christmas last year, so that was taken care of. She had a pretend microphone as well. We just went to value village and spent $5.00 on a sparkly shirt that she wore over her winter coat. My dh worked evenings this week-end so my girls and I travelled to my Mom's. So, there was nobody here to give out candy. So, very inexpensive for me.
Good job on keeping yours underbudget. Good luck with Christmas. I know it's hard.
