Bizarre. I go to Target but always use my debit card. I haven't written a check at a store in years. Perhaps this is their way of discouraging the whole "check" writing thing which is weird to me since writing a check IS money in their pocket...

Sorry you had a bad experience.

Sorry you had to go through all that. I had something similiar happen at Lowe's when I was buying carpet a few years ago but it had to do w/ Visa rather than the actual store. It kept declining my debit card~first it scared me because I wouldn't have gone into Lowe's and spent almost 2grand on carpet if I was even close to what was in there and then it ticked me off. We tried a few times to run it through. Anyway, I called the bank the next day (I was one of MANY). They said their server couldn't handle X amount of traffic and so it bounced anything out over $500 or something. But it was a hassle!! Anyway, seeing how that happened several times in just one night, I suspect that they will fix the issue. It will make alot of people angry. I would send corporate a letter. It sounds like it was out of the managers hands and that he tried to be helpful. I worked at Walmart years ago and the machine would always, always decline a specific bank card from a specific bank. I don't know why but it just would. People would be royally ticked off!

I live in Canada. Debit cards are king here most people don't write checks or have cash. I know you guys write a lot more checks in the states so I can see how that would hurt them.

Two weeks ago, I let my customers know I would not be accepting checks anymore. I don't think I will lose any business because of it. I have had few bounce and the only way for me to get my money back is to go to that person and ask for it that bounced it. The truth is, if they bounced a check they don't have the money in the first place. It was just pissing me off. So some of my good customers that have never bounced a check suffer that inconvenience now. Oh well, I am NOT a bank. People need to realize that if the money is not in their bank to so a debit withdrawl you will get declined. It is not my job to float that money for you for days on end. The whole thing makes me really mad so I stopped accepting them. Not many retailers in Canada will even take a check, I was probably one of the last in this area.

Anyway back to your situation. I laughed when you said you take out your scissors and cut up the card. Do it! Return the stuff and get your money back. Then go to the bank, get some cash and get your Wi at super walmart!! They were rude to you. However, I do see accepting less checks from a retailing perspective as the wave of the future.

I am leery of using the debit card setup simply because with a check, i have the duplicate check to show what I wrote a check for. I do NOT use many checks at all and since I often use an electric cart there due to mobility issues writing a check is a real pain in the you know what!!

I know no one working in store can help it, and am sure they were getting a lot of flack.

I bet though you probably have a notice up about not taking checks.

My mobility has gone down hill since work has been so crazy and I just don't seem to get to the Y early enough to get a decent work out in(I can only use things on the first floor since there is no elevator and there are a couple treadmills, an armcycle and one eliptical I am able to use!

Sorry you had to go through this. I have to say I can't remember the last time I even used a cheque! I'm impressed that there are stores still take them!!!

Hope this gets sorted out and you get your Wii!!!

I definately understand your frustration. I wanted to mention that CVS (if you have one locally) takes competitor's coupons. You know the ones that say "get $25 G/C for new or transferred prescriptions" and they will honor them, if you take the coupon in w/ your prescription pick up and give you a $25 CVS g/c. As far as I know there isn't any limits on how many you can use per pick-up or per month but I did see yesterday that you can't use them to pay for your prescriptions. Anyway, I've probably gotten about $200-$300 in gift cars from doing that. I clip them out of the Rite-Aid flier that comes in my mail on Tues. Anyway, hope you figured something out w/ your prescriptions at Target. GL
