If we can keep on target we should make our final credit card payment in January of 2010 and be debt free SOON!
We hope we will get enough in our tax return to pay off my car - about $5K left on it.
Then we wish to pay for my DD's preschool next year ($915) in cash and save save save. My unemployment will run out in March so we want to have money saved in case we need it. Still undecided about a job right now. DH and I are rolling it around.
That's great news, Stacy! I've said it before, but I'll say again that this is definitely a goal I would like to aspire to someday. (Baby steps, baby steps!) Congrats!
My near-term goals are:
1. Get current/finalize negotiations on mortgage(s). We're on track to reach this goal by the end of this year!
2. Get baby e-fund ($1,000) fully funded. We should be at the halfway point by the end of the year. Barring any emergencies, of course.
3. Complete budget for entire year 2010.
We're looking ahead and hoping for a better year in 2010. By the end of next year our goals are to:
1. Be prepared to pay our bills a month ahead. In other words, have the money on hand on the first of the month to pay all bills for that month.
2. Completely pay off four debts (scheduled to be accomplished by mid-year).
Sometimes I wish I had the normal job, normal house mortgage, normal car payments. None of my stuff is normal!
Honestly, I would love to get through December without going over my credit line at the store. I applied for a raise in my credit line and I'm doubtful of getting it but we will see. January is looking ugly! At this point I am just saving personally in case it goes way over so I have a back up. I would however, like to keep my personal money I'm saving to meet some other goals I have personally(or perhaps get rid of my ticker). I won't even be able to set personal goals for 2010 until April maybe? That is a little discouraging but I do have to play the waiting game for now.
End of the year goals personally simply include forced payments on BF's student loan and our car loan. We did really good this past year due a higher than expected tax return for bf and a bonus at the end of the year. It is way farther gone than I thought it was going to be. I do see hope on it now and it might even be gone before the car loan is gone. So we will just be coasting for a couple of years, then it will be savings mode for a house!
Next years goals I am still thinking about. Some involve debt repayment and some involve savings.
Of course........I will want to sell my store at some point but that is a whole other ball game and it won't be soon!

Good for you Stacy! That's a great idea. I'm always scrambling and would love to know I have it set aside. Maybe I'll add that to my 2010 goals.

Yeah, that was our big goal for 2009.

Stacy, I know you have explained it before, at least I think you have, but can you explain the sinking fund for me, or at least the concept of it?
Sounds like you are making good progress.
I don't mind explaining it all.
