DH and I were discussing baby names and he mentioned his uncle (might be a great uncle) and we googled his name. Up popped two things of interest. One was a page of family history that MIL has never seen before (she was thrilled when I sent it to her) complete with really neat photos of some old folks we've never seen "young" before. The second was a family history book on Amazon of all places. For $70! DH saw the book and said his mom had a copy of it and there was a photo in it that really meant a lot to him. But $70?!

Fast forward a few weeks. I was trying to think of a gift for DH b/c his birthday is this week and it hit me to look for that book. I found a used one in great condition for $30. Do-able. A few days later I mentioned to MIL that I had to order his gift, and she asked what I was getting. I told her, and she said she had two copies and I could have one of hers. Then, thinking out loud, she said I could have her mom's copy. DH was SUPER close to his grandparents and they're both gone now. I thought he'd LOVE that. She just called to say she found both copies and that her mom's had a dedication written in the front to DH's grandparents and news clippings about the book stuck inside. She's giving it to me tonight.

I was more than willing to pay $30 because that ONE photo meant so much to him, but to be able to give him his grandparents' copy and all the history THEY added to it is incredible. I'm SO excited about this gift and so grateful to MIL for giving it to me. I told her she could give it to him herself, but she insisted.

Anyway, long story to say I saved $30 plus shipping, but it just feels like another one of those moments that make it all worthwhile. I can't wait to give it to him!

That is an awesome gift, I also have my grandma's family history book and I enjoy looking through it to read about the family members I had never met.
