I've not done it either but would love to!! DH and I almost did it at the beginning of this journey but I decided that we didn't have the money to do it and we wouldn't be doing ourselves any favors going into more debt to take the course to learn how to be debt-free!lol
I can see not taking the course when you feel overwhelmed with debt, but in retrospect, I think it could almost be an investment in becoming debt-free.
DH and I took a Financial Peace University class earlier this year. I would definitely recommend taking it if you have the opportunity. The support was great and it really got our motivation up in ways that nothing else could. We've been in debt repayment mode for the last 3 years but since taking the course we've actually made a bigger impact on paying things down and our budgeting has gotten much better. Another benefit to taking the classes is that only the first Financial Peace University course you take costs anything - once you have the kit you can always attend another course at a later date for free. My church is running their second session and I've already sat in on a few lessons I wanted to repeat. It isn't all about debt repayment either as it covers insurance, paying for education, saving for retirement, etc.
Yes! I do wish we had taken it. We did read Total Money Makeover (and I did purchase that when I should have been paying off debt lol). I do think of it as an investment, but some nagging voice in the back of my mind kept saying "you can't make ends meet as it is and you want to spend X amount on this course that you don't even know will work". But I do have faith in what Dave Ramsey teaches (as common sensical as it may be)!
OK, now to search for nearby FPU course starting up!! :)
I think it could be an advantage to be at a church that you are not well known at. The others there are there for the same reason as you and won't be judging you for your financial woes. And you wouldn't be seeing them on a regular basis like you might for members of your own church. JMO
I haven't taken any courses, but I've read his book and am following his 7 steps.
$99 for a 13 week course sounds like an amazing deal.
