As you know from my last post, I organized the Adopt-A-Family program this year for the Shepherd of Good Hope. Our office adopted two families. One family had all their stuff destroyed by the ex when he moved out.

Well I just got back from dropping off the food/gifts. We were able to raise $700 cash plus gifts/food etc. We bought each child two gifts, a full Christmas dinner, a grocery cart full of food and gift cards for the grocery store ($100 each). We also got them a large family gift. A

Knowing that those families are out there and then dealing with some of them one-on-one (or with their story) really IS heartbreaking. Our church does a free community dinner on Wednesday nights and some church members go (my family included, to volunteer and to sit with the guests and talk to them) and looking into those faces and hearing their stories is enough to bring tears to my eyes. And they're mostly the working poor - I don't think any are homeless, but the stories are just as hard as you say they are.

That's totally awesome what you guys did!
