cell phone savings

This morning as I was paying my bills online, I decided to call Telus to find out about getting my cellphone bill lowered. So I spent 35 minutes on the phone with Mary and got my bill lowered by about $25 a month. Could have been a bit lower if I didn't want call display. But otherwise it is pretty basic as all I use it for is phone calls, no texting, email, web browsing etc.
As soon as this contract is up I'm going over to pay and talk.

You normally don't think of $25 a month being a lot.

LOL I just called my cell phone company yesterday and got a $50 savings per month!
Only catch was it was going to be a $35 charge per phone to switch us from contract-ly to a month to month plan but the guy on the phone was so nice and he made the changes so we'd see the $50 savings this next month and the $70 "charge" so we only will really see a $20 difference the first month.
Then after that we will be saving $50 / month. We had a plan that gave us WAAAAAY to many minutes and since I don't work anymore I am not on my cell much at all.
I am so thrilleD!
It does really pay to call them up and just ask what they can do.
I think I will call up my landline phone and cable companies and see what they can offer me.
Good job on calling to save and like Norma said, $300 a year is a good amount to save.
I would like to drop my personal cell phone this year, as I have a company phone I can use, and hate carrying two phones, keeping them charged and answered, but DH wants me to keep the personal phone for our business. Gosh, I can't even remember the phone number and it would save $12 a month when you include taxes.

Did you know that on "new" plans Telus is no longer charging the system access fee? My first phone (with Telus) was pay and talk, I got the $99.99 phone with the $50 activation credit, so paid $49.99 for the phone. The same phone on the longest contract still cost more than that at the time.
Then I "migrated" to month to month **without** a contract. I have had the same plan with them for two years and have never had them change it or increase the cost.
I just discovered that they are no longer charging the system access fee and have yet to call them to ask why it is still being charged on my account.
I am curious if they would give me the same $50/month deal as another company has that is way, way more in every service for not much more than I pay them just to keep me as a customer...
