In our part of the country, a New Year's day lunch consisting of hog jowl, black eyed peas, & cabbage (we prefer mixed greens)

We also have a dinner of ham, black eyed peas and usually cabbage and/or collards.

Good old East Tennessee, not hardly in Kentucky.

We have the same meal. We always joke that it's a good thing we had it, b/c we'd be in trouble without all of that good luck, LOL!

I think this is a little more of a Southern tradition.

My SIL married a guy from NY and he looked WAY down his nose at collards last Thanksgiving and said he was NOT eating grass. LOL. Now SIL insists that he likes them but he doesn't look convinced.

I'm with you, and I'm not 50! DH and I hang out in our own living room. I can't STAND to go anywhere on a "drinking holiday" because of the idiots on the roads. We'll shoot pool and crank up the radio and not even care when the ball drops ... unless it's on the pool table anyway, LOL. Although we are usually awake ...

No partying here, either - we walk around the corner to our favorite sushi place for dinner with DH's parents. And count me in with the "can't stay up till midnight" crowd - maybe it's a maturity thing, and not an age thing. At least I'd like to think that. ;-)

Being in NJ, the first I'd heard of black-eyed peas eaten on New Year's Day for good luck was from Paula Deen - and until today, I didn't know about the ham and cabbage/collards part. :) I do love the collards, though!

I'm usually up at 5:00 AM, but I just remembered that our favorite college football team is playing at 7:30 PM, so I might try to make it until midnight this year!

You mean there's a 5:00 in the MORNING??!!?? LOL. Whooo ... anyway, good luck to you! Enjoy the game. I LOVE football and I'm married to the only guy in the world who thinks it's utterly pointless. Sigh.
