Believe it or not, I am, too. However, hee hee, I'm totally exhausted with this pregnancy and 100% dig sleeping in right now. All of the kiddos sleep late (three of them until lunch time) so I get my "quiet" hours mid-morning, LOL. And actually can't get much of my work done (writing) until they're asleep so I've morphed into a nightowl just to make money.
Pre-kids, I used to get up at 6:00 to clean out my horse's stall before school, but not 5am. Five is for, um, going on trips! Yup, if I see 5:00 am we're getting an early start going somewhere, LOL!
I do remember getting up and sitting in DH's chair next to a sunrise, drinking hot chocolate and watching the birds in the feeder on the other side of the window. It IS Heaven - you're right about that!
FLINGING DEBT:
Traditionally we do kielbasa and sauerkraut - which I hate so since it's just me, dh and the two younger ones this year - it's ham and noodles! ODS is staying at a friends house he thinks he's to old to party with us anymore :( . I know the family and everyone will be home so should be fine. DH and I are staying home with the two younger boys, because who can afford a babysitter this time of year, and I really don't like to go out. Usually we do an overnight at my bff's house with her family, they have three kids too so it's always fun, but this year just packing the kids for the overnight seems like too much work. We will be putting the kids to bed, playing wii (maybe sharing a bottle of wine) and since we have only been married 5 years, definitely plan to be kissin' at midnight!

In my family we make a special cake....and in this cake is put in a fake gold coin, a fake silver coin and a wrapped penny.
We then cut the cake...the first piece of cake is for God, the second for the poor and the third for the sick...
Then the other pieces are cut in seniority elders (gentlemen then ladies) adults (ladies then gentlemen) and then children by age....
The gold coin is money, the silver coin is health and penny is love (or time)...
Whoever gets the coin in their piece is supposed to be lucky in that area for the year...
If God, the poor or the sick get the coin...a special donation is made by everyone either to the church, charity group or health organization....
I like this tradition....

Loving winter this week! It was 9 degrees last night - yep, only 9 Fahrenheit, and we only have a small heater in the family room, none in our room, so we do lots of blankets and cuddle close all night.
The snow is so cold is squeaks under your feet, which is a sound I love.
I went ice skating this afternoon and on a snowmobile ride with DH and DS for about an hour.
I put on a pot of turkey soup everyone enjoyed for dinner.
Tomorrow we will go to Dh's cousin's cabin for a feast of crab legs and prime rib with tons of appetizers and champagne. Kids will be out on the ice until close to midnight having their traditional hockey game. They even mount halogen lights out on the ice to be able to see.
DH said it is a blue moon on New Year's Eve - second full moon in a month, and we won't have another until 2028 (aka the saying, once in a blue moon.) I guess that is a really good thing if it happens on New Year's Eve, at least I would like to think so!

What a wonderful tradition.

I think DH & I kicked our heels up until we turned 40, then staying home made a heck of a lot more sense.

I think I'm with you Norma -- the older you get, the wiser you get about partying (or, like you said, maybe just lazier).
Kate
I sure hope you both are not sick for the New Year.
