In our part of the country, a New Year's day lunch consisting of hog jowl, black eyed peas, & cabbage (we prefer mixed greens)

I'm a Tennessee girl myself (my mother grew up in AL and my dad grew up in FL), so Southern through and through.

Great post! Very interesting traditions. I had never heard of the cabbage and peas one before. I guess I live too far north.

My grandmother always had us for dinner every New Years Day. After supper we would play a dice game with small wrapped gifts. Once everyone had all the gifts, you set a time limit and whoever rolls certain numbers gets to steal a gift from a family member. I was great fun! Perhaps next year I will start this tradition with friends in my area unless my mom wants me to go her house again next year. This year we were invited to her house for supper and we will go. She just moved back to my part of Canada and it is nice to see her more often.

Tonight BF and I are going to his sisters and her husbands for a steak and shrimp dinner! We were going to sit in their hot tub but it is supposed to be very cold so I don't know if that will happen. I am just looking forward to relaxing! Maybe we will play some cards. I am sure we will have a few drinks!

Happy New Year Everyone!
