So . . . went home last night and checked my balances and updated my ticker. That made me feel better about things until I glanced down a the pregnancy ticker. OMG - I have 2 months left!! I have so much to do!! We have no clothes, no diapers, nursery is not set up! I have so many normal around the house projects that I need to get done too. Not to mention that I am a little scared of our tax situation. I don't have any reason to be other than we adjusted our withholding last year so we wouldn't get 2K back, but now I am scared that we will have to pay 2K right before my maternity leave. I know, I know . . . all irrational thoughts.
Back to reality.
I need to:
* Get baby clothes from my brother
* Get baby clothes from my friend
* Wash said baby clothes and organize
* Move DS to guest room (which is already painted)
* Set up furniture in nursery - if I have time, paint . . . if not . . . don't worry about it
* Order small cloth diapers
* Stalk diaperswappers.com for used diapers
Anything else would be nice but those are the necessities. Wow - that makes me feel better just making a plan.

Congratulations, does the pink ticker mean a little girl?

Oh I remember that rush of "I'm so not prepared for this" feelings like it was yesterday. Hang in there, don't panic, you will get things all accomplished!!
YES! The pink ticker means a little girl! We are going to name her Sarah Kathryn!
As for the cloth diapers, we started with Fuzzi Bunz pockets for DS at 9 months. We were lucky that he fit into the medium at that point and he can still wear them at 2 years (we are potty learning right now). We will be saving those for the new baby but I don't have any small diapers since we started late with DS.
I have learned a lot since then and this time we are going to start with prefolds and fitted diapers in the small size and then move to the pockets when she gets larger. I think that will be more economical and flexible in the beginning. I am having someone make bamboo fitted diapers for us b/c I can do that cheaper than buying new and I LOVE bamboo diapers. I am trying to stock up on used bamboo prefolds from diaperswappers because they are more expensive than regular cotton ones.
I'm a few months behind you but I can relate. The whole "it's happening this year" thing is killing me! I still have five months left, but when I realized my EDD is exactly five months after my u/s next week I almost flipped. (And I always go 2-3 weeks early). Like you, we have a TON to do to get ready. I have to get my gear all over again (got rid of it all after #5 outgrew it b/c of my tubal ligation) and that's kind of cool, but it makes for an overwhelming list! Fortunately - or not - we don't have room for a nursery so that's one chore we can skip, LOL. But two months does NOT sound like long, and that's a lot to do with a 3rd trimester belly! Best of luck to you - it'll work out great!
I need to take a cue from you and make a list, then try to break it up into time frames. Maybe I'll feel more in control, especially if I can work all the big stuff in before 30 weeks. Yup, that's what I need. A plan. Whew.
FLINGING DEBT:
Relax - but you know that.
30 weeks? There is good news here. You can use that to your advantage. Ask brother and friend to drop off clothes and come for coffee--trip saved. Furniture? Husband can do that as you will be washing and organizing all the clothes and ordering diaper things. You gotta ask for help here. You don't want to over stress yourself or over do it physically or the baby will be here a lot earlier than you want.
Good luck. Start asking nice and you will get what you want my dear. A pregnant lady has a lot of charm.
I started off with DS #3 at about 3-4 weeks old. I knew that he would probably be my last and I had wanted to try cloth out with each child, but never got up the guts. I did the disposables for the first few weeks of life even though I had a stash of cloth because I was still just too scared. I tried fuzzi bunz first, I had bought them second hand and I had about 8 in the newborn size and I loved them. So much easier than I was expecting. He grew out of those super fast though because he was 9 lbs 3 oz at birth. I found the fuzzi bunz to be too expensive to buy new so I branched out. I bought all of my cloth diapers used except for a very few, a wool diaper cover and a bamboo fitted diaper. I loved the bamboo one but it was so expensive!
I found a bunch of Bumgenius's that I had bought used. They worked fantastic for a few months and then I ran into all kinds of residue problems. I tried everything but nothing worked and then they started to lose their elasticity and I eventually just tossed them. What I found worked the best for ease of use and cleaning were the prefolds and the Bummis diaper covers (which are so cute!).
I really enjoyed my time with cloth diapers, but then he started eating solid foods and I just found it too hard to keep up with the laundry, this was mostly due to the fact that I had a baby that pooped at least 4 times a day. It got to be too much so I switched back to disposables, but I'm so happy I made the commitment for 10 months. I still have a whole trash bag full of cloth diapers and I know I'm not having another one, so I'm going to see if I can consign the nicer ones. I do have about 8 newborn sizes though of fuzzi bunz. Where do you live?
Abbie,
You should try selling them on diaperswappers.com!!!
It is the best website for buying and selling cloth diapers. I have purchased many many dipes on that site and that is how I got connected with the person who is going to make my bamboo fitted diapers.
How much do you want for your fuzzi bunz? I am in Athens, GA by the way.
I am really glad to hear that you use cloth. You can save a lot of $. I have two girls and cloth diapered both. The youngest is in diapers still and I am trying now to get the courage to make my own wipes to save more money.
