Battling the inevitable rent increase...
| Thu, 01-07-2010 - 6:11pm |
Our lease is up March 31st. We received an email from our landlord that she wanted to have us sign a new lease NOW...along with a $100/month increase. Isn't that steep???? We love where we live and are extremely good tenants (not a late payment, ever). I just couldn't accept another $1,200 a year out the door...especially since our salaries still have not been reinstated and our raises (while we know the amount) have (and will not) be applied. Oof!!
I did my best at playing hardball...knowing that $100 is not normal for the area. At the end of the day, we agreed on $50/month. I can manage that...I guess. And of course, rent will always go up so I can't expect it not to. I can only hope that my salary gets reinstated.

First off, congratulations for negotiating it down to $50!
I can't even imagine what an increase like that would be like.

Hey Kate=
the building equity is very exagerrated....
you pay for your mortgage interest which eats some of the equity and then there are all those maintenance type things....

<About home ownership...it's definitely not fun when something significant, like a central a/c unit, needs replacing.
Sanctuary - not mine!
Hi Marie-
Gosh, sorry that your house is in turmoil.
You are both so busy with work it must be really hard to do all that needs to be done.
I am constantly decorating, cleaning and organizing (I have a lot more time than you with no kids or live in gal pal)
I really enjoy doing this and consider it fun (im a bit wierd that way).
