100k miles!

My van hit 100k this morning on my way back from the doctor. I sort of grinned because when I was 17 my dad ended up buying me a brand new truck (12k) because he said anything over 100k wasn't reliable enough for me driving back and forth to college. (He's extremely frugal so it must have pained him a great deal). I still have that truck. It's a 1994 Ford Ranger with almost 300k miles on it and the ONLY thing we've ever had to fix on it was the water pump. Other than routine maintenance, that truck has never had a repair. Not even the clutch, which is amazing because I learned to drive a stick shift in that thing! (The clutch "should" be replaced at 75k-100k miles and ours works fine). It never broke down, either. Even when the water pump went out I drove it home (I made it home without the truck overheating and DH just put on a new one).
Anyway, my van is a 2002 and the mileage is kind of high, but we've taken it on a couple of long distance trips. I'm not planning on replacing it until it's dead in the water, but that's easy for me to say. Not only is DH able to fix ANYTHING, we've also got other vehicles I can drive and we own our own tow truck. Not much to fear when you consider all that. =c)

I drive a 94 chevy truck. It has had the motor replaced in it lately. I don't mind driving it at all. I hope it is fine for a few more years. Love those vehicles with no payments on them!!
Congrats Sarah! My dad has a 1998 Chevy Jimmy with just under 450,000 on it. He's had a few big repairs lately, but he refuses to trade it in and get anything else. His and my mom's vehicles are both paid for. He said when it hits 500,000, he's finally go ahead and get a new(er) one.
What a good feeling to have a DH that can do auto repairs.

We put 180,000 on our van before it got to the point there were so many things that weren't working that it was nickel and diming us to death. We also knew it wouldn't pass inspection without some of these things being fixed. Still plenty of life in your van. Enjoy it!
