How to accurately reflect prepaid...

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet to track all my spending.
I use a pre-paid ferry card for travel: I put $X amount on the card at a time and then use it as needed. Works the same way as a pre-paid Starbucks card.
My question is, if I put $ on it in January, and use that balance over say three or four months, how do I accurately show how much I use it each month? If I paid cash for the ferry travel, each trip would be itemized in the monthly spreadsheets so I know how much I spend each month. Can I put $ on the card quarterly but still somehow show the breakdown of usage on the monthly spreadsheet? I don't know how...
Does that make any sense? Or do I just have to show in my spreadsheet $200 for January and just show it as a quarterly or bi-monthly expense, since that is when the money leaves my bank account?
(Yes, I am math challenged)...
There is a significant discount for using a pre-paid ferry card on the routes that I travel, which is why I no longer pay with cash.

Hmmm, I would put the money in my spreadsheet when I loaded the ferry card. To the side of the spreadsheet somewhere I'd make a notation of the date I used the ferry that way you'll know how many times a month you are using the ferry or to cut down confusion on the spreadsheet keep a small notebook with the dates you use the ferry???
Sure others will have better ideas....
