My boyfriend and I got our first Costco membership this year, $50 for it. We have used it a few times but only for basics...toilet paper, paper towels, etc. Are we under this magic illusion that we really save

I find you save on the big ticket items mostly.

We do not have Costco here, but we do have a Sam's Club, division of Walmart.

I use Costco for very specific items (and others when they are on sale). I buy Toby's dog food there ($35 a bag versus the $80 I have to pay for Kita's gluten free stuff). I did an ingredients check, and checked with my vet and the Costco brand is higher quality then most. I buy milk ($1 cheaper), meat, laundry detergeants, cleansers etc. And thats about it.

(We have BJs, but I think it's similar....)

You might want to check out their optical department if they have one, if you wear contacts. My daily wears are almost 1/2 the price at BJs as at the optometrist's office.....
