We just got noticed that our electric will be going up by 3-6%. Guess they have to make their money somehow after we started using all these new energy saving things.

Your utility company doesn't make sense, I would have phoned them as well and had them raise my payment.

Marie I almost died laughing at this. My dogs are part husky and we can't "agree" on the temperature, lol. I'm freezing wearing socks, flannel jammies and have four blankets on the bed and the dogs are panting. Egads. I have an air filter that blows out cool air so I have to aim it at the foot of the bed. They both sleep infront of it so they get the air (Toby on the bed, Kita under it)

I've tried to teach them to lay on my feet but to no avail.

Norma, have you compared what you owe this year to last? Since we had such a crappy summer, maybe you saved money over the summer on A/C and fans? Just a thought.

That's what we pay every month for 6 months then it's re-evaluated to see if there is an increase or decrease in the budgeted amount. Why are you complaining?? I've had gas and electric bills higher than that but then again we live in Wisconsin, where it's supposed to be cold in winter. But I just don't understand why it's such a big deal. Do you have a settlement month where you pay up?? I don't, it just gets renewed for the next year.

I would/have bigger fish to fry and complain about rather than the gas or electric bill. Like my 2 car loans OR the credit card bills OR the cemetery plots that never seem to go down OR I could go on. Pick your battles.

My 2 cents

My concern has to do with checks and balances.

My last hydro bill was 9 bucks. I am not on a budget plan and they estimate two bills out of three. I guess I had been paying too much in the previous two. But I have a bad feeling about the next one!!

I use to live in Texas and we lived in an apartment. In the summer I got an electric bill for 480 bucks. I phone to complain and I told the operator I was the queen of Darkness and always ran around shutting off lights and reading by candle light. It was a normal bill for that time of year though, mostly because the apartment was poorly insulated and air conditioning was a must! Oh well, those things always go up no matter what we do it seems.

Does your bk payment get adjusted?

Yes our BK payment is suppose to adjust with a significant salary change like DH had last September.

I'm with you, Norma. I like to keep things nice and even when it comes to the budget. We're on the balanced billing plan, and last year we got slammed with a $600 overage that we had to pay in March. We were ahead of the game heading into winter, but then the gas/heating portion of the bill skyrocketed. This year, we're ahead by nearly $400...and I'm hoping that our new insulation will keep the heating bill more reasonable so we come out at least close to even (or - dare I say it - AHEAD) by the end of March. Like Marie, we keep the heat down overnight (58 for us) and rely on blankets and doggies to keep warm LOL.

If the electric company won't raise your monthly payment to what you think is acceptable, can't you just pay them the higher amount YOU budgeted, anyway? They can't complain about being overpaid, right?

I do ALL my household bills, ie, cable, electric, phone, cell phones, insurance drafts, by automative drafts with e-bills (save a tree).

Our doggles are little and run just a tad cooler than us, so much not to need to be under the covers, but still in need of pillows!
